"I truly credit lifting for changing my body"

When people tell me they don't have time to exercise, I give myself up as an example. Work, family, stresses of everyday life–it all gets better when you put your health first!

My New Year's resolution for 2016 was the first one that has ever stuck with me. I decided enough was enough. I weighed over 200 pounds, had no energy and was not the mom I wanted to be. I jumped into a healthy diet and exercise regimen with both feet. I went from 204 pounds to 138 pounds, a size 18 to a size 6. 

Now, I'm the kind of mom I've always wanted to be. No more watching from the sidelines. I play soccer with my kids, and we go for regular long bike rides. We even participated in a 5k this past summer!

My Training

I truly credit lifting for changing my body. The muscle tone and definition it gave me could not be accomplished through just cardio or light weights.

Plus, lifting heavy is a total confidence booster! Nothing gives me more pride than throwing another plate on the smith machine or leg press and nailing a heavy deadlift.  

Overall, I try to workout 5-6 days a week–at least two are with a personal trainer. We focus on traditional strength training and other forms of torture he comes up with for me. He challenges me and I challenge him to make each week tougher.

When I'm not with my trainer, I am taking group classes that combine cardio, weights and bodyweight training. These classes range from boot camps to Vinyasa yoga–which I've recently added into my routine because it helps with my recovery and flexibility. Not to mention, it’s a great calorie burn and bodyweight workout!

My active “rest days” usually include a 5k easy run or bike riding with my family. I do try to totally unwind one day a week.


My diet is as clean as I can make it during the week. I credit meal prepping for staying on track with my nutrition. I do keep things interesting by carb cycling–I keep carbs low on “rest” days and boost them on days where I am lifting heavy and working out intensely. I will also allow myself a cheat meal once a week to keep the cravings at bay and my metabolism guessing!
